Weekend Trip to Lucketts Store & Design House

What do you get when you combine a weekend of antiquing, outlet shopping, and a resort hotel overnight without kids, husbands, or alarm clocks? An epic sister weekend, that's what! On Friday I took the train to Virginia to visit my sister and we fit in all of those things and more. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Lucketts Store - I've wanted to check this place out for years.

I was surprised by how well curated the store is - I expected it to be like your typical antique store but with better than average finds. And while it was that, I didn't expect to see beautiful, well designed spaces like this:

It was a good thing (depending upon how you look at it...) that I had taken the train and anything I bought had to be lugged back on the train or shipped home because if I had had my car, there were so many things I couldn't have resisted taking home with me. A few of my favorites were this beautiful magazine/log rack,
large iron horse head lamp (which weighed a ton),
and round metal mirror:

Moving outside (where there are lots of small sheds with more goodies), I was just dying over all of these beautiful old doors
and I so wanted to ship this chandy home for my daughter's room but a texted pic got the thumbs down :(
There was just so much neat stuff at every turn...

When we were heading back to our car, we spotted a sign about the Design House at Lucketts being open - we had no idea what that was but of course we went to check it out...

As soon as we saw the front porch of the Design House, I knew there was going to be some amazing stuff inside.
I only had my iPhone so my pictures don't do it justice, but every single room was just gorgeous. It's like walking through a magazine design house except that everything in it is for sale.

And this amazing chest. Oh my gosh you guys, this chest. I'm pretty sure I would still be petting it if my sister hadn't dragged me away...
Apparently the Design House at Lucketts is only open on certain dates so we lucked out in getting to see it. If you make a trip out to Lucketts and have flexibility in your dates, definitely go when the Design House is open (as well as when they're having one of the Lucketts Flea Markets, which we missed out on).

My sister and I also hit several other antique shops near Lucketts and then after staying overnight at nearby Lansdowne Resort, we shopped the outlet malls the next day. We made sure there is no photo documentation of the spending that was involved but a fun spring Kate Spade bag just might have found its way into my suitcase :)

Hope you all had a great weekend too! Anyone else have plans for a fun girls weekend coming up??
