Over the weekend, my husband and some of his friends from Cincinnati rode in the Five Boro Bike Tour in NYC. It's a once a year event where the streets of NYC are cleared of traffic so that 32,000 cyclists can go on a 40 mile bike tour through all five boroughs. Pretty unbelievable. While I wasn't up for biking 40 miles (or 4 miles for that matter...), no way was I about to get left behind on a visit to NYC! Luckily, we worked it out so that two of my Cincinnati girlfriends came for the weekend along with the guys and we had a chance to shop, catch up, and have a night on the town. Perfect!
One of my friends flew in a day early and we were able to hit some of my favorite Connecticut shops before heading to NYC the next day. At Parc Monceau in Westport, I fell in love with this huge framed collection of botanicals - so much more unique and impactful than a group of individually framed ones:
I also love the detail of these open cabinet door fronts and it would be a very doable DIY project:
A stop at United Housewrecking is another Connecticut must-do. They happened to be having a flea market and tag sale this past weekend and can I tell you how hard it was to pass up this bench:
What do you think - high gloss black or white? Natural? I even thought about selling my "new" foyer bench and throwing this beauty in the back of my car but it just wouldn't work in my space. Bummer.
We also stopped by Terrain, the Lillian August Outlet, some consignment stores, and (of course) HomeGoods. I ended up finding the perfect piece for the bare wall to the right of our fireplace:
The next time you see her, she'll be black with a gold "X" and gold spray painted hardware:
Then it was on to NYC - I always make a stop in Pearl River Mart - you may have seen my Instagram pic of all of the gorgeous blue and white bowls and dinnerware. They also have a huge selection of ginger jars:
and foo dogs in all shapes, sizes, and colors:
Another NYC must-do is ABC Home - it never disappoints. they have a whole floor of the most gorgeous linens. I can't see myself ever leaving this bed if it were in my home:
And thanks to Holly for letting me know about the Madeline Weinrib Sample Sale - there were some great deals to be had!
But now it's back home and back to reality - I'm scrambling to finish off my One Room Challenge room before Thursday and once that's done I've promised myself I'm going to finish off the laundry list of half-finished projects in my house before starting any new ones. The home office is one of those projects - I completely stalled out on it once I got wrapped up in the ORC and I'm looking forward to getting back to it and finishing it off. The only thing that's happened in there this past month is the addition of this pretty gold pagoda:
I've also got a mirror that I need to hang over the fireplace, nesting crates to hang in the kitchen, a mini-makeover to do on our built-in china cabinet, etc. etc. The list never ends. But that's ok because for some crazy reason I love it :) What's your next big project?
