Our Home Office: We're {Slowly} Getting There..

I'm a decorating tortoise. Slow and steady in plugging away at each room in our house. With an emphasis on s-l-o-w. I decided on a decorating plan for our office over three months ago and I'm only about half way there. But progress is progress so I thought I'd share where things are at along with what's holding me up in finishing the space.

There's always a domino effect when I remodel a space and without getting into the nitty gritty of what went down in this case, I ended up having to repaint the entire bookcase. And let me tell you - when you're edging with white paint next to black, it's pretty unforgiving! But it looks so much better, especially now that I've decorated the shelves:

Most of the accessories on the shelves are ones that I already had but this gold pagoda from HomeGoods is a new addition:
Everything here was on the shelves of our family room or home office in our old house:
Some of my shelf accessories are store-bought like the black and white Nate Berkus ginger jars but others have personal meaning, like the stirrups from my old saddle that I'm using as bookends (did you know that I rode and competed all the way through college?):
I love my thrift store antelope bookends too:
And you may recognize these boxes - they are the same IKEA KVARNVIK boxes that I bought for our basement TV stand. They fit the four cubbies in our bookcase perfectly!
Since I'm a serial fabric sample collector, I added a basket where I can stash my latest fabric finds but still have them easily accessible:

For our built-in desk seat, I'm using our old master closet X-bench that can be tucked all of the way under the desk and out of the way.

As far as what's still left to do in the office, for one I haven't figured out what to do with the wall space in the desk nook - maybe add a bulletin board??

I'm also back at square one with desk chairs. Remember how I found that great wingback chair from HomeGoods that I was going to put on casters and use at the desk? It turned out to have crappy back support so back it went to HomeGoods. And the two slipcovered chairs that I was going to use on the other side of the desk found a home as end chairs at our kitchen table. So now I'm down to zilch on chairs and am just using this woven one we already had until I come across something better:

I also still haven't found the perfect drapes. Well, that's not exactly true - I think that Schumacher's Chiang Mai in the new ebony colorway would be complete perfection but my husband thinks it's the most hideous fabric he's ever seen. Chiang Mai is like that - you either love it or hate it.

And I still have a big empty wall to deal with - plans for filling it up are in the works...
Hopefully I can knock the rest of this room out in the next few weeks because our foyer, powder room, master bedroom, and family room are all screaming for decorating help. If you have any ideas for drapery fabric or for a big office chair (I think I have my heart set on some type of wingback), please help this tortoise out and pass them on!

Thanks so much for stopping by,
