We're halfway through the One Room Challenge and what's my biggest accomplishment this week? We finally have a complete plan for the makeover of my daughter's room. Wasn't I supposed to have figured that out two weeks ago? Totally. But I'm dealing with a super opinionated tween so these decisions take time my friends...
When we left off last week, we had painted the walls of my daughter's room kelly green to coordinate with her new PB Teen duvet:
and we had found a few fun fabrics for pillows. Since then, I've painted all of the trim (which had yellowed with age) and I almost finished the makeover of the flat closet doors, which will include these newly gold IKEA pulls. It felt good to whip out my first can of spray paint of the season :)
That's about where the actual progress on the room ended because my girls are off school this week and we've been spending the week like we should be - goofing off instead of doing house projects. But luckily my daughter and I were able to take a chunk of time to sit down together and figure out a plan for the rest of the room. Here's what we came up with:
*I'm going to DIY a tufted upholstered headboard with a simple curved shape. There's baseboard heating along the entire wall that her bed is against so I'm planning to make a headboard that hangs from the wall rather than one that has feet that would rest up against the heater.
*The windows in my daughter's room have plantation shutters, which I love but they create a problem with having a lamp on the nightstand next to my daughter's bed because you can't open the shutters fully without knocking into the lamp. The plan is to add some wall-mounted lights above her headboard and ditch the lamp for a look like this:
but using these inexpensive IKEA KVART wall lamps spray painted gold:
*For a nightstand, we're going with this funky little gal (IKEA's VETTRE nightstand) spray painted to match one of the shades of blue in my daughter's duvet:
*We'll be replacing the cracked overhead dome light in the room with something much more sparkly. No final decisions have been made on the new fixture but lots of sparkle is a must - one option is PB Teen's Teardrop Chandelier:
*And finally, we have a little something special planned for one of the blank walls in her room - it involves lots of colorful purses!
That's it for me this week! Be sure to hop over to Calling it Home {here} and {here} to see what everyone else has been up to on their ORC rooms!
