It's week 4 of the One Room Challenge and I'm slowly plugging along on the remodel of my daughter's bedroom. In case you want to catch up from the beginning...
Week 1: The "Before"
Week 2: We Have Paint!
Week 3: A Plan (Finally!)
This week I made some progress on dressing up the flat closet doors by adding molding in a fun, modern pattern and switching out the tiny knobs for gold spray-painted IKEA TYDA pulls. I still need to glue/nail down the new molding and caulk & paint the doors but I'm loving how they're looking so far:
It's a big change from the "before":I don't have a miter saw so I cut each one of those molding pieces by hand using a miter box - not a fun job but I powered through with the help of my '80s playlist (Jessie's Girl, Funkytown, Centerfold - all great sawing tunes...). Getting all of the molding leveled and spaced evenly on the doors was quite a task too - the look of boredom on this face as she patiently waited to be taken out on a walk says it all:
I also made a trip to IKEA and picked up this funky little nightstand ( called the "VETTRE") which my daughter completely loves. I thought that we were going to have to spray paint it based on the online image but the color is softer than I expected and while it's not a perfect match, it's staying as-is for now:
While at IKEA I also found some cute sheer drapes (MATHILDA sheers) to use for the bed canopy - such at great deal at $19.99 for a pair:
I also made it to the Ballard Outlet while on vacation last week and picked up this iron armitage tote:
It got hit with the gold spray paint and is now my daughter's trash can:
And finally, I replaced the cruddy hinges on her closet doors and switched out the ivory/blue/lilac outlets throughout the room for new white ones:
The new hinges and outlets were a pretty inexpensive update but it's made a big difference in making the room look more fresh and new.
Over the next two weeks I plan to create some art with my daughter for a gallery wall over the chest of drawers
and also find some new trim for the dog lampshade so that it matches the rest of the space:
And of course I still need to DIY a headboard and a canopy, change out the ceiling light fixture, and finish about 30 other smaller projects. #notgonnahappen
That's it for me this week - you can check out everyone else's week 4 progress on their rooms {here} and {here}.
And don't forget that Friday is our Best of the Nest Link Party for April - be sure to stop by and link up your favorite project of the month!
