My daughters mean the world to me and I created something for Valentine's Day that tells them exactly that - an upcycled painted globe with the words "I Love You Around the World and Back Again":
I created it using a globe that I had picked up at a garage sale a few years back and had never found a home for. It was a pretty simple project that I worked on with my youngest daughter. First, we used tracing paper to trace the outline of each continent:
Then we used the side of a crayon to rub over the traced continents so you can tell where the bumpy, mountainous regions and the lines of your globe are - this will help you figure out where the continents go after your globe is painted.
Then we used the side of a crayon to rub over the traced continents so you can tell where the bumpy, mountainous regions and the lines of your globe are - this will help you figure out where the continents go after your globe is painted. Once all of the continents were traced and cut out of the tracing paper, I painted the globe using a coat of primer and two coats of black paint. I used black because I wanted to create a chalkboard-like look with the black background and white outlined continents but you can paint your globe any color that you want. I also prettied up the base with some gold Rub 'n Buff:
Using the crayon rubbings as your guide to where to place each continent, we found their homes (which was much easier than expected) and traced around the continents with a white paint pen:
Once the continents were traced, I freehanded a few of the bigger islands and then added my Valentine's message with gold and red paint pens:
My daughters aren't fans of everything that I craft but they love their globe! And I love that while it's a sweet thing to gift around Valentine's Day, it isn't so "Valentinesy" that it can't be displayed year-round.
It would be super cute in a nursery, don't you think?
