My Blue & White Fireplace Tile - Should it Stay or Go?

Do you have a friend who shares your passion for decorating and who's your go-to person for shopping, talking design, helping rearrange furniture in your house (again and again...), and calling you when she's spotted an amazing find at HomeGoods that she knows you'll love? I do. And I was lucky enough to have her as my next door neighbor for seven years. Now that we've moved, I miss running over to each others houses to give our opinions on paint colors, our latest shopping finds, and...just about anything and everything.

So here's where you come in. For the life of me, I can not make a decision about what to do with our living room fireplace. And I no longer have my friend living next door who can walk on over and give me her opinion. So would you give me an opinion? I would love it!

Here's the fireplace that's driving me crazy with indecision. The issue is the blue and white tile on the face of it:
I think it's so charming and the style of the tile fits in well with the Cape Cod style of our home. And I would guess that it's original to our 60-year-old home, which gives it some sentimental value. I don't think it has any monetary value - the tiles appear to be reproductions, not hand painted delft tiles.
I originally had every intention of keeping the fireplace tile as-is but the closer that I get to finishing off the room with art and mantel accessories, the harder the tile has become to work around. And so my mantel has remained bare ever since the Christmas decorations came down.

So, my question to you is should I preserve this part of my home's history and find a way to work around/with the tile or should I change it out to something that's more my style?

This is a pic of the rest of the room (the couch faces the fireplace) - if I keep the tile, I think I would need to bring some bits of blue into it by changing out a few pillows, adding some blue and white ceramics under the china chest, etc.

If I change the tile, I think I will go with something classic such as a carrerra or calacatta gold marble:
{Home Bunch}
{Houzz - Muse Interiors}

{Live Beautifully}
{Houzz - Tiek Built Homes}
or stone:
{The Inspired Room}
{Red Door Home}
{Houzz - Castro Design}
So what do you think - should the blue and white tile stay or go?
