Happy Friday my friends! It's all rainy and foggy here this morning which is normally a kinda crummy way to start the weekend but this girl's got a smile on her face because it's not snow!! In fact, hopefully this rain will melt away the six foot piles of snow along our driveway and our sagging, ice-clogged gutters and maybe even give us a peek of the grass that we haven't seen in weeks. I think our dog has actually forgotten what grass looks like - this week she's started doing her business right in the snowy driveway rather than walking a few more feet to the shoveled area in the yard. Lovely. I guess as long as it's snow covered, it's fair game by dog rules. And being stinking cute helps you get away with just about anything:
I really appreciate your sweet words about my home office remodel plan that I shared earlier this week. Now I'd love to share a few of the details that I've got planned and see what you think. In case you didn't see my earlier post, this is my game plan:
We loved the arrangement of three chairs around the desk that we had in the office of our old house because the girls and I can all hang out in the same space getting work done after they get home from school. We'll be keeping the same "desk" (it's actually a World Market table) and two slipcovered tie-back chairs:
but getting a new third chair because our lovely ole pleather one isn't looking too lovely anymore:
I had a tall wingback desk chair in mind and after months of looking I lucked upon this one at HomeGoods for less than half the price of other similar chairs. And the angle of the back is perfect for sitting at a desk.
My plan is to add casters to the legs to raise the height of the seat a few inches and make it easier to move the chair in and out.
I haven't done much caster shopping yet so if anyone has advice on where to buy them or what type of casters to look for, I'd love to hear it.
The jute rug that we already have in the office will stay
and I'm hoping to find a great cowhide to layer over it.
I'd love to add a few new desk accessories that we keep in a woven tray like this so that they don't end up sprawled all over the desk:

I need something that does well with low light and a caretaker with a black thumb. A snake plant seems like a good fit from what I've read. Any other suggestions?
The cabinet doors and drawer need a little hardware update:
For the knobs, I will probably use these mother-of-pearl knobs from Anthropologie that I used in our old house. Love them:
On the wall opposite the bookshelves sits a serpentine chest that I bought on clearance at HomeGoods years ago.
I hate the color of it but love its lines so I'm going to pretty it up with some paint - maybe a soft gray like this:And remember that big blank wall behind the chest?
I've got a grid-style gallery wall in mind using IKEA frames with large matts and photos of NYC:
I haven't figured out what I'm doing for drapes but I know what I want to hang them on - this beautiful new mid century wooden rod from West Elm. So cool:
And, finally, the overhead light - it's totally blah but not horrible.
I was originally planning to keep it but then our light at the top of the stairs to the basement broke so instead of buying a new basement light, I'm moving the office light to the basement and getting this beauty (Shades of Light's Traditional Urban Semi Flush Ceiling Light) for the office!
That's it for my plans at this point - what do you think? Any ideas for drapes? I'd love to find drapes in a fabric that is colorful but also has some black and white in it but I haven't come across anything close to what I have in mind. I may just have to buy fabric and make the drapes myself but with my limited sewing skills I don't know whether or not that's a good idea...
Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
