Stacks of Design Inspiration

Everyone has their guilty pleasures. Mine are pretty simple. Sleeping in late, snuggled under a down duvet on a cold winter morning. Checking out the gorgeous homes and outrageous antics of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (did I just admit to watching that ridiculous show?). Downing boxes of Good & Plenty. And, my favorite - lounging on the couch with a cup of coffee and a stack of unread design magazines.

Over the holidays, the only Real Housewives of Beverly Hills shows are reruns and I didn't eat a single box of Good & Plenty (who has room after all of the cookies, ice cream, and other crap I ate?) but I did log some serious sleeping hours and I worked my way through two stacks of unread design magazines, finding lots of inspiration and ideas to jump start me into 2014. Here are some of the stand-outs:

I'm head over heels for this wall color (Drawing Room Blue by Farrow & Ball) featured in HGTV Magazine:
{Julie Nightingale Design}
Designer Julie Nightingale describes it as a "tranquil blue [that] is nice for sleeping in on the weekends but not so dark that it feels like a cave." It's definitely in the running as the paint color for our master bedroom.

HGTV Magazine also had a feature on designer Sarah Richardson's weekend home:

I just love her style - the whites and soft blues and casually elegant feel are right up my alley. You can see pics of the rest of her home {here}.

Country Living Magazine had a pretty clever idea of repurposing colanders as planters:

Also in Country Living was a feature on Martha MacCallum's Cape Cod home - I'm loving the color palette of her daughter's bedroom and the beautiful Quadrille ikat print on the twin headboards. You can see the rest of Martha's home {here}

House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Month (Dec/Jan 2014 issue) is a stunner that was designed by Caitlin Wilson. I love the gray cabinets painted with Benjamin Moore Silhouette and I'm also digging the herringbone pattern of the porcelain tile floor:
{House Beautiful}
Better Homes and Gardens' January 2014 issue has a fantastic feature on myrtle topiaries with a ton of helpful growing tips by the master of topiaries, Loi Thai.
{Tone on Tone}
After taking in all of the great tips, this black-thumbed girl is actually considering trying her hand at growing a topiary or two.

Southern Living's August issue had a tour of their 2013 Idea House in Nashville. My favorite room was the living room, which was designed by Phoebe Howard:
You can see the rest of the photo tour {here}.

I also made my way through the many, many catalogs that had piled up in the weeks leading up to the holidays. Serena & Lily's Dahlia Woven Mirror totally feeds into my decorative mirror obsession:
I'm dying over Bunny Williams Home's Brushstroke Lamp but at $950 it's not going to happen. But maybe it could be a DIY project??

And I found a possible ceiling fixture for our office (one of the next rooms on my makeover list) - Shades of Light's Traditional Urban Semi-flush Ceiling Light:
I love that it uses three 100-watt bulbs rather than the standard one or two 60-watters that you find in most flushmounts.

I hope that all of you got to indulge in a few guilty pleasures over the holiday break too. Speaking of, I spilled my guilty pleasures, what are yours?
