Have six weeks ever passed by so fast before? Somehow it's already the sixth and final week of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda from Calling It Home. If you've been following along, you already know that I've been working on transforming our sad excuse for a guest room (you can see the changes week by week starting {here}). I'm so happy with the finished space and so thankful that this challenge forced me to get it done at about five times the rate that I normally would have. Ready for some before and afters? Here's what I started with:
and here's our new guest room:
For some reason the mirror over the bed shows up dark in the pics above - it's actually a brassy beauty:
You know that I'm a pillow-holic, right? I tried REALLY hard to limit the number of pillows on the guest bed so that I don't drive my guests crazy when they make the bed. I got it down to five - doable, right?!
And after much trial and error, I finished my hack of the IKEA TRYSIL chest, turning this chest
and a Target tablecloth into this fabric covered beauty beside our guest bed {the IKEA hack tutorial is {here}):
After debating about painting the two table lamps that I found at HomeGoods last week, I ended up going with a pair of these Target lamps instead:
You've already seen my new roman shades that are so much better than the granny floral balloon valences that they replaced:
Remember the other side of the room with the pile-o-crap that we hadn't gotten around to unpacking since our move this summer?
Pile-o-crap no more!
On the short wall to the right of the sofa, I hung a chalkboard that my kids are in charge of decorating to welcome our guests! It may also come in handy for writing down things for our guests like our internet password, etc.
I wasn't sure where we were going to keep the chalk but my youngest daughter came up with the idea of sewing a little bag for it. She stitched one up and we hung on this decorative owl hook:
And remember this old TV armoire?
With some paint, new hardware, and some modifications on the inside, it's now a wardrobe armoire for our closet-less guest room:
Thanks to all of my fellow ORCers who linked up and took on this challenge with me - it's been so fun to see everyone's progress on their rooms and I'm so thankful for all of the sweet, encouraging comments along the way.
Join me in checking out everyone else's final reveal, including the original participants {here} and the linking participants {here}. I can't wait to see what my fellow bloggers have been up to!
Resources
All of the big pieces of furniture (bed, sofa, armoire) and many of the accessories were things I already had but most of the bedding and some of the accessories were new. I've listed the sources for everything below!
