Week 6 (The Final Reveal!)

It's week 3 of the One Room Challenge and while I'm supposed to be concentrating on my guest room makeover, I've also been doing some major furniture moving & room swapping in our house this week. After living here for almost four months, we decided to swap our home office and family room. The arrangement works so much better for us that I'm not sure why we didn't figure it out sooner. The only disappointment is that the room swap rendered one of my favorite pieces of furniture homeless - the linen slipcovered loveseat from our old living room:

So guess where it has landed? Yep, the guest room:

The poor girl is looking kinda dowdy right now but we're going to change that. Problem #1 is that she blends right into the color of the wall - she'll be much more of a stand-out once I get the room painted.  I've decided on Pratt & Lambert's Ever Classic, which is a classic not-too-warm and not-too-cold midtone gray:

My little loveseat could also use some patterned pillows and a throw to add some life to the neutral linen. I've already picked up one pillow for her - it has a great textured, shimmery silver graphic design:

Having the loveseat in the guest room is going to be perfect for creating the feel of a relaxing guest retreat. The only problem is that the wall that the loveseat now occupies is where I was planning to put the long chest of drawers that was supposed to be staying in the room. So that chest is going to have to find another home (maybe the living room?) and I'm going to replace one of the nightstands with a small 3-drawer chest. I've got an IKEA hack planned for this guy:
Burlap and gold spray paint are involved. It's either going to be amazing or a total disaster. Stay tuned on that one.

I've got a few other things that are likely to also find a permanent home in the guest room, including this cowhide rug that was in our living room in our old house but has yet to find a spot in our new one:

I'm planning to use this super soft and fluffy throw on the bed or loveseat. The throw has been sitting in my linen closet unused ever since I received it as a gift over ten years. Seriously. It's such a beautiful throw and I knew that if I used it on our family room couch or our bed, our dog would claim it as her own and ruin it in less than a week. The guest room is the perfect spot for it.

I also picked up this fun guy when I visited my parents in North Carolina two weeks ago. When I oohh'ed and aww'ed over him in the store, my mom and sister didn't share in the love. Probably you don't either but for some reason I think he's super cool.

And I'm hoping to find a home for this print in the guest room. This past weekend our family took a quick overnight trip to Boston where we spent a few hours at the Museum of Fine Arts. They had a beautiful exhibit of John Singer Sargent's watercolors and the gift shop had several prints of his work for sale. I fell in love with this print so it made the trip home with me:
You can actually order this print and others (including several Audubon prints) online through the Museum of Fine Arts' "Art on Demand" site {here}. There is a limited selection of prints but they are reasonably priced (my 20" x 16" print was $28) and I'm really impressed by their quality.

That's it for me for week 3 of the One Room Challenge! We've got guests coming to stay with us this weekend so my work on the guest room is going to grind to a halt for a few days but I'll be jumping back into it next week. Be sure to head on over to Calling it Home to check out the progress that everyone else is making on their rooms!
