It's week 2 of the One Room Challenge (ORC) and I'm making some headway on my mess of a guest room. I managed to find a home for everything in the pile-o-crap that had been sitting in the middle of the room since we moved in a few months ago. The room looks about twice as big with everything cleared out of it:
Remember the "before"? It was pretty close to an episode of Hoarders but without the dead cats at the bottom of the pile. The "after" left me with a lot more space to work with than I had envisioned (maybe I can even fit a loveseat in here?!). The biggest fan of the clean-up is my little black and white buddy who is loving this wide expanse of comfy carpet in a house full of hardwoods.

I also said buh bye to those lovely balloon shades that blocked the top half of both windows. The shades over the larger window were blocking such a beautiful view of the backyard:
Before taking them down, I hadn't even noticed these trees that are full of red berries - a few cut branches in a vase will be pretty for the holidays!

And so much more sunshine is coming through the small window. Those balloon valences were even uglying up the outside of my house - see them through the window over my fall window boxes that hang outside of that room?:

Another small change is that the switches and outlets in the room were changed from an ugly ivory to a bright white thanks to my hard-working father-in-law.

The rest of the progress was all about fabrics - I'm going with euro shams in this awesome nubby fabric that I found at The Fabric House in Greenwich - it's a small store but they've got some killer fabrics at amazing prices.

And I decided to use this beautiful fabric (Jensen Cloud) from Calico Corners for new fabric window shades:

For the style of the shades, I plan to do simple flat roman shades like these:

Finally, I ordered Pottery Barn's Diamond Linen Quilt in Flax. I've been eyeing this line of bedding for a while now - it isn't exactly cheap but I couldn't pass it up when I was able to get it on sale + 15% off with an emailed promo code + $25 off with a mailed coupon.

We actually have some guests coming to stay with us in a week (yikes!). They are some of our best friends and I know they won't bat an eye at my half-finished guest room but I'd love to at least get it painted before they arrive. I guess we'll see how that goes - I'm not known for my speed in choosing paint colors...

I'm off to check out the progress of the other ladies who have also joined the One Room Challenge linky party. You can check them out too by visiting {here}. Have a good one!
